Etching - Lettering

Etching - Lettering

One of the fundamentals of an attractive memorial is integration of the lettering style, technique, and layout with the other elements of design. In creating your monument our design team will ensure these elements are harmoniously balanced.
Raised Lettering

RAISED

Consists of a dark polished letter on a light background. It is suitable for dark granites and traditional monument shapes and designs where a formal appearance is desired. Whitening the background by "hand chiseling" creates contrast without paint.

V-Cut Lettering

V-CUT

Consists of light coloured letters on dark granite. It is used on monuments with a curving shape, to compliment etched designs, or when space is limited. Hand chiseling changes the surface texture, which whitens the letters forever unlike painted letters.

Sandblast Lettering

SANDBLAST

A common lettering technique it is suitable on all granites. Our deeply sandblasted letters create contrast with shadows, which will never fade. Lettering cut to a shallow depth requires paint for contrast, unfortunately when it peels off the lettering fades.

Line-Around Lettering

LINE-AROUND

This technique is used only for the large family name letters. It is suitable for all colours and is used in conjunction with sandblast lettering.

Frosted Lettering

FROSTED

This technique is V-cut without the "hand chiseling". It is used for long verses where small letters are required to accommodate many lines of writing usually on the back of monuments.

Hand Tooling

HAND TOOLING

The improved contrast and legibility created by hand chiseling is apparent in this photograph. The craftsman is permanently changing the surface texture, which has a whitening effect that will never fade.
